Sijjin Movie Review

Sijjin unfolds the tale of Irma (Anggika Bolsterli), who harbors romantic feelings for her cousin Galang (Ibrahim Risyad). However, Galang is already married to Nisa (Niken Anjani) and has a daughter named Sofia. Unable to let go of her obsession, Irma turns to a shaman to cast a spell on Nisa and all the women in Galang's family, wishing for their demise within five nights.

As strange occurrences plague Galang's home, including mysterious disturbances, peculiar incidents at bars, and unexplained deaths, Irma suspects that the danger extends beyond Galang's household.

From the outset, the film's narrative is refreshingly succinct. Characters are introduced clearly, with brief yet vivid descriptions, eliminating the need for viewers to decipher each character's significance and ensuring a relaxed and enjoyable viewing experience.

Anggika Bolsterli's portrayal of a male character is particularly notable. Her appearance, from clothing to mannerisms, effectively captures the essence of a woman playfully teasing her husband, becoming a focal point for the audience.

Niken Anjani skillfully embodies the role of a betrayed wife, portraying a character that is both ordinary and submissive. Even for those unaccustomed to horror films, Niken impressively conveys the gradual possession of demons through convincing character movements.

In Sijjin, despite a minimal reliance on loud sounds, the film successfully creates a suspenseful atmosphere. The strategic use of silence leaves viewers in anticipation, distinguishing it from other horror films that rely on loud noises for jump scares.
